John Dramani Mahama, the president-elect, has urged National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters to increase their prayer frequency, stressing the importance of a deeper spiritual commitment than was demonstrated during the campaign.
He emphasized the significance of seeking divine direction in order to give the party the courage and discernment required to carry out policies meant to raise the standard of living for all Ghanaians.
Addressing a gathering of NDC supporters, Mahama said, “This is the time we need to engage in fervent prayers than we did during the campaign for God to grant us the strength and wisdom to implement measures that will make Ghana a better place to live. All I will say is that it is finished; God has already done it.”
Mr. Mahama claimed that the departing New Patriotic Party (NPP) government had left behind large debts in a number of areas, most notably in electricity and education, which his government is expected to pay off.
He expressed his opinion that these large debts are a purposeful trap set up by the NPP government to guarantee his downfall.
However, Mr. Mahama confirmed that he will overcome these obstacles with the help of God.
“The NPP government has set a trap for us. But we shall not be caught in that trap; we will escape unscathed. The Almighty God who granted us electoral victory will see us through the difficulties ahead until we achieve success. God will give us the wisdom to lead this country and make it better for future generations.”
In response to the delays in the money transfer to WAEC, Mahama cited a Facebook post criticizing the delay.
