President-elect John Mahama has directed the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Leadership to nominate Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin as Speaker of the 9th Parliament.
This mandate, issued after consultations with the National Executive and Parliamentary Leadership of the NDC, shows Bagbin’s distinguished service to Parliament.
Alban Bagbin’s impressive resume includes rising from Member of Parliament for Nadowli to Minority and Majority leader, and eventually becoming Speaker of the 8th Parliament.
His wealth of experience will be crucial in guiding Parliament through this critical period in Ghana’s democratic and legislative development.
According to the President-elect, Bagbin’s stewardship will strengthen Parliament’s ability to deliver on its oversight responsibilities effectively.
This comes after various groups, including the NDC Professional Forum, chiefs and people of the Upper West Region, appealed to Mahama to retain Bagbin as Speaker.
Alban Bagbin has also received praise for his handling of the 8th Parliament, which was marked by its unique composition.
