Mahama pledges commitment to judicial independence and constitutional reform

President John Dramani Mahama has reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to strengthening Ghana’s justice system.

Speaking at the 92nd Annual Jalsa Salana, Mahama outlined his government’s agenda for judicial reforms aimed at ensuring greater independence and fairness in the legal system.

Highlighting the critical need for impartiality in governance, Mahama stressed that a truly independent judiciary is essential for maintaining public trust and ensuring justice for all, regardless of background or status.

He expressed concern over the systemic inequalities that continue to affect many Ghanaians, particularly those in marginalized communities, and assured the public that his administration would work tirelessly to address these disparities.

One of the key proposals Mahama mentioned was the revival of the constitutional review process, which he believes is necessary to ensure that the nation’s laws reflect the evolving needs of the people.

Mahama announced plans to establish a National Constitutional Review Validation Conference, aimed at facilitating broad consensus on the proposed constitutional amendments. This initiative, he argued, would bring together stakeholders from across the political and societal spectrum to forge a national consensus on the future of Ghana’s constitution.
