Mahama’s government has borrowed over GHS 50 billion in 50 days-Nhyiaeso MP

Lawmaker Dr. Stephen Amoah of Nhyiaeso has stated that the government has borrowed GHS 59 billion in less than 50 days since the Mahama administration took office.

During President John Dramani Mahama’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) on February 27, 2025, Dr. Amoa made this statement to the media in Parliament.

“All the payments the President [Mahama] is referring to—where did they get the money from? In less than two months, the NDC government has borrowed almost GH¢59 billion, an unprecedented amount. Ghanaians have given them the mandate, but they must be held accountable,” Dr Amoah said.

He added “We handed over a restored economy to the Mahama government—an economy that was operational and fundamentally strong.”

He points out that national security is at risk due to youth unemployment. He claimed that in order to address the issue of youth unemployment, he established the Ministry of Youth Development.

He said “The youth unemployment has led to despair and frustration. This poses a major security risk to our country and requires urgent attention.”
