The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has arrested a young man, Alex Cobbinah, for impersonating a soldier and spreading false information.
Cobbinah, who resides at Madina Zongo Junction in Accra, was caught after uploading sral videos on social media wearing military accouterments and claiming to be a soldier.
In one of the videos, Cobbinah alleged that President-elect John Dramani Mahama intends to sack all soldiers recruited into the GAF through “unofficial” means.
The military police investigated and arrested Alex Cobbinah, who has since been handed over to the Ghana Police Service for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The GAF warned that impersonating a soldier is a serious offense, citing the National Liberation Council Decree (NLCD) 177 of 1967, which states: “No person shall wear or use any military uniforms, equipment, or accoutrements or other material unless he or she is a member of the Armed Forces of Ghana.”
The GAF also cautioned the public against paying money to agents or individuals promising to secure enlistment into the military, emphasizing that such actions are fraudulent and punishable by law.
The public has been urged to report any suspicious activities involving unauthorized military attire.
