Man who attempted to sell a girl for Canadian visa acquisition arrested at Buduburam

A 30-year-old man, Kofi Amofa, has been arrested for attempting to sell a 6 years old girl.

The suspect, according to police investigations, intended to use the proceeds for a Canadian visa acquisition.

The suspect now in police custody was arrested by the Police Intelligence Department of the Central East Regional Police Command on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at Obolo Estate, a suburb of Buduburam in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region as a result of consistent intelligence by police.

According to police sources, an intelligence was gathered regarding the desire of the suspect, Nana Kofi Amofa alias Kofi Yesu’s desire to sell the 6-year-old child who resided with him.

He intended to sell the girl who is the biological daughter of his senior brother, Kwadwo Brako, a resident of Nyamebekyere, a community in the Ofoase Ayirebi District in the Eastern Region where he hails from at GHC 150,000 for the preparation of a Canadian visa.

Police, therefore, instituted a setup and while the suspect negotiated with the buyer, stormed his residence and had him arrested at around 10 pm.

The suspect in his statement to police made a full disclosure of his intentions and also confirmed that he had brought the survivor to live with him under the pretense of offering her quality education.

The matter has been handed over to the Kasoa Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit for further investigations.
