Military and Police retrieve weapons in Nkwanta South

As part of efforts to put an end to an ongoing conflict, police and military forces in Nkwanta South, a municipality in the Oti Region, conducted a quick joint operation and discovered an alarming arsenal of weapons, including knives, firearms, and cartridges.

The operation, which began on Saturday, January 18, is a forceful reaction to the rising levels of violence that have engulfed the region in recent weeks.

As authorities step up their investigations into illegal arms possession and related crimes, at least 16 people have been arrested in connection with the unrest.

Key conflict hotspots have been targeted by security forces, where tensions have escalated because of what local sources say is a lengthy land dispute between tribal factions.

Unknown attackers opened fire during the clashes on Wednesday, January 15, killing multiple residents and injuring numerous others.

Following the incident, houses were burned, forcing families to evacuate and causing fear and uncertainty in the neighborhood.
