Minister For Food And Agriculture Meets Regional Directors Of Agriculture

In a bid to drive the growth and development of Ghana’s agricultural sector, Hon. Eric Opoku, the Minister for Food and Agriculture, has held a crucial meeting with the Regional Directors of Agriculture in Accra.

The meeting, which was convened on short notice, aimed to introduce the Minister to the directors, share his vision for the future of agriculture, and outline strategic directions to achieve the ministry’s goals.

He emphasized that agriculture must be a priority not only for the government but for all citizens of Ghana. In his view, this transformation could only be achieved through strategic planning, collaboration, and a long-term commitment to developing the agricultural industry.

Key Initiatives Announced
During the meeting, the Minister announced several key initiatives aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity and making the sector more attractive to Ghanaians. These include:

1. Establishment of Farmers’ Service Centers: The government plans to open Farmers’ Service Centers in all districts across the country. These centers will stock agricultural inputs such as seeds, fertilizers, and equipment to support farmers.

2. Cooperative Societies: The government will encourage farmers to form cooperative societies to pool resources and work together for the common good.

3. Seed and Fertilizer Distribution: The government will provide seeds and fertilizers to various districts across the country to boost agricultural production in the short term.

4. Post-Harvest Losses: The government will provide storage facilities at farm gates and within local communities to reduce post-harvest losses.

Call to Action
The Minister urged Regional Directors of Agriculture to actively facilitate and craft strategies that would encourage greater participation in the sector, especially among the youth and urban populations. He also called on public institutions, including schools and churches, to take up farming to become self-sufficient.
