Minority files stay of execution in Akwatia MP’s case

Ernest Yaw Kumi, a member of parliament from Akwatia, was found in contempt of court by the Koforidua High Court, and a bench warrant for his arrest was issued. The minority in parliament has appealed this decision.

In addition to the appeal, the Caucus has asked that the court’s order be stayed while the appeal is being processed.

Kumi was found guilty of contempt for disobeying a temporary order that prevented him from taking the oath of office as a lawmaker.

The bench warrant was issued because he did not show up for sentencing.

Jerry Ahmed Shaib, the second Deputy Minority Whip, spoke to the media about the issue and gave more information about the court case.
