Move beyond rhetoric, deliver on promises – Amidu to Mahama

A former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Mr Martin Amidu, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to move beyond rhetoric and deliver on his pre-election promises.

Mr Amidu, in an article, expressed concern over President Mahama’s description of Ghana as an “economic crime scene,” saying it was not a new phenomenon.

“I am more interested in knowing what President Mahama in opposition and his minority in Parliament did concretely for Ghanaians during the interregnum when the economy was being turned into an economic crime scene,” he stated.

Mr Amidu noted that the rhetoric of inheriting politico-economic crime scenes had been part of every new government’s rhetoric since 2001, and that it was time for President Mahama to deliver on his promises.

“We the people voted for President Mahama for firm and impartial leadership and not worn-out politico-economic rhetorical excuses,” he added.

He cautioned President Mahama against using the “economic crime scene” rhetoric as a preparation for another Highly Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC) initiative or a China loan, which had been the usual practice of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) governments.

Mr Amidu also expressed concern over the “political crime scene” unfolding under President Mahama’s watch, citing the need for firm and impartial leadership.

“The electorate is not foolish and unthinking, Mr President… Please, brother, walk your pre-election can-do talk!” he urged.
