My government will increase driver’s license validity to 8-10 years – Bawumia

Flagbearer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, is pushing for significant modifications to the driver’s license renewal procedure.

Driver’s license renewals occur every two years, in contrast to the existing ten-year renewal process for Ghanaian passports.

All drivers must renew or validate their licenses every two (2) years from the date of issuance, according to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), whose mission is to ensure the use of roadworthy cars and promote acceptable driving standards.

However, Dr. Bawumia thinks that the existing system needs to be extended because it causes drivers inconvenience.

Speaking to chiefs and other interested parties in Boadua, in the Eastern Region’s Akwatia Constituency, Dr Bawumia disclosed his plan to change the driver’s license renewal cycle to 8-10 years.

“Drivers are here; today, the driver’s license expires every two years. Let us extend it, be it 8 years or 10 years. Let us make sure you can have a driver’s license without having to renew it every year. It does not make sense, and so by the grace of God we would make changes”.
