Renowned Broadcast Journalist Nana Aba Anamoah has praised Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), for his recent statement that renal patients would receive free dialysis therapy through the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
She expressed her admiration for the move on Monday, November 11, on X, formerly known as Twitter, where she hailed the decision as a huge relief for many Ghanaians who were struggling to pay for kidney treatment.
The statement was made on Sunday, November 10, by Dr. Bawumia, the flagbearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), who promised that the new policy would take effect on December 1, 2024.
The public, particularly patients and advocates who have been advocating for more easily accessible healthcare options, has embraced the move.
Nana Aba emphasized the initiative’s significance in her X post, saying that the policy will lessen the strain on renal disease patients and their families.
She pointed out that many Ghanaians have been severely impacted financially by the cost of dialysis, and that Dr. Bawumia’s proposal is a positive development for a vital health service.
” I’m beyond excited that from December 1, dialysis treatment in Ghana will be free under NHIS! Gosh! This is a huge relief for patients who’ve struggled with costs for so long.”
“Thank you! Thank you, @MBawumia, for making this essential care accessible to all,” she posted.
