Upon receiving the updated 2024 Provisional Voters Register from the Electoral Commission (EC), the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has agreed to examine it closely over the course of a week.
This agreement comes after the NDC requested a forensic investigation of the voter registration during the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on Tuesday, October 1, 2024.
The party’s General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, signed a statement expressing the NDC’s delight with the EC’s decision to re-display the revised Provisional Voters Register.
To guarantee greater accessibility, the party suggested conducting this re-exhibition both physically and online.
“The Functional Executive Committee of the NDC has deliberated and decided to accept the EC’s promise to release the corrected and updated version of the 2024 Provisional Voters Register for scrutiny within one week,” the statement read.
It emphasized how transparent the re-exhibition process must be and argued that all eligible voters should be able to confirm their information on both digital and physical platforms.
“We recommend that the re-exhibition exercise should be conducted online and offline at the exhibition centres,” the statement noted.
In addition, the NDC called for an interparty and multi-stakeholder review of the EC’s IT system due to acknowledged weaknesses that would jeopardize the integrity of the general elections in 2024.
“Additionally, the NDC demands a multi-stakeholder and interparty examination of the IT system of the Electoral Commission with the aim of addressing the vulnerabilities that the EC itself has admitted to,” the statement said.
It added: “These vulnerabilities could be exploited by criminals to compromise the integrity of the December 07, 2024 elections if not addressed.”
