Over 80 educational projects to be commissioned this week

The government of Ghana plans to commission more than 80 educational projects in all 16 regions of the entire country on Thursday, November 21, 2024.

The project aims to increase access to high-quality education by offering contemporary facilities that are suited to Ghanaian students’ various needs.

The exercise, which will be a nationwide event with simultaneous ceremonies at the District and Regional levels, will be led by President Akufo-Addo, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Education.

The events, which will be aired live on major television networks and social media platforms to guarantee nationwide participation, will be officiated by the President, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum.

The projects cover a wide range of educational needs, including those of technical institutions, senior high schools, and elementary schools. These include kindergarten facilities designed to support early childhood education, E-blocks, and STEM-focused schools.

The Accra STEM Academy in La-Nkwantanang-Madina, the Awaso Model STEM SHS in Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai, and the Kpasenkpe Model STEM SHS in the West Mamprusi District are noteworthy examples of the projects. The program also includes basic education facilities like two-unit kindergarten blocks in communities like Fremasi DA Primary in Assin South and a 12-unit classroom block at Salem D/A Basic in Atwima Mponua.

“These projects reflect the government’s commitment to improving the quality of education and ensuring that every Ghanaian child has access to a conducive learning environment,” the Ministry’s statement read.

The Bosomtwe Model STEM JHS, which has a four-story, eleven-unit classroom block, and the Wesley Girls Demonstration School in Kumasi Metro, which will get a six-unit classroom block with ancillary facilities, are two projects that make the Ashanti Region stand out.

An 18-unit classroom block will be unveiled by the Sagnarigu Tamale Business School in the Northern Region in response to growing demand. Modern sanitation facilities, like the six-unit classroom block at Kodzobi Ando Basic School in Adaklu, will be beneficial to other regions, including Volta.

The initiative also incorporates Technical and Vocational Education (TVET), with initiatives such as the Akomadan TVET-Applied Technical school and the Anyinam TVET-Applied Technical and Fashion school designed to give students real-world skills for the workforce.

“We encourage all Ghanaians to join this celebration of progress in education,” the statement added.
