The Parliamentary Service Board met in extraordinary session in November 2024 and appointed Mr. Ebenezer Ahumah Djietor as the new Clerk of Parliament.
The appointment came after interviews with three deputy clerks, with Mr. Djietor emerging as the successful candidate. Currently serving as the Deputy Clerk of Corporate and Financial Management Services Division, Mr. Djietor will succeed the outgoing Clerk, Cyril Kwabena Oteng Nsiah, who is set to retire upon turning 60 on February 2, 2025.
Mr. Djietor is a seasoned lawyer with extensive parliamentary administration experience, and he is one of Parliament’s longest-serving procedural clerks.
He has previously held the position of clerk to a number of important committees, such as the Foreign Affairs Committee, the Business Committee, the Judiciary Committee, and the Constitutional, Legal, and Parliamentary Affairs Committee.
Mr. Djietor has already received an appointment letter from Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, the Speaker of the Eighth Parliament and Chairman of the Parliamentary Service Board, allowing him to take office on January 1, 2025.
Speaker Bagbin has instructed Mr. Nsiah to take an annual leave of absence beginning December 31, 2024, in order to prepare for the transition.
