ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, the Ghana Police Service’s Director of Public Affairs, has declared that the police will use two helicopters to keep an eye on rallies hosted by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the two main political parties.
During a press briefing today, ACP Ansah-Akrofi clarified that after consulting with both sides, the police have put in place a number of security measures, such as roadblocks and diversions, to maintain law and order and safeguard all participants, commuters, and the public at large.
Two helicopters have been provided for aerial surveillance of the rally grounds by the National Election Security Taskforce (NESTF), which is headed by Inspector General of Police Dr. George Akuffo Dampare. This adds another level of security.
“The helicopters will offer a panoramic view of the rally areas, enabling police to monitor crowd dynamics and identify potential security threats,” she stated.
The goal of this initiative, according to ACP Ansah-Akrofi, is to improve safety and enable real-time activity monitoring, which will help spot any suspicious activity that might call for police intervention.
Despite the rallies’ close proximity, she assured the public that the NESTF is ready and dedicated to monitoring every facet of them.
