President Akufo-Addo to commission Flower Pot Interchange on November 19

The Flower Pot interchange will be commissioned by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Tuesday, November 19, 2024.

Eugene Arhin, the Jubilee House’s Director of Communications, made this announcement on Sunday.

The flyover will enhance traffic communication between the motorway’s north and south once it opens. It will improve the general standard of living for locals by making it easier to travel between places like Cantonments and Burma Camp and East Legon, Spintex, and Tema.

The project includes a 140-meter ramp from Shiashie into the viaduct towards Airport Hills, an 80-meter ramp from the viaduct onto the road towards Tema, and an 802-meter dual carriageway for the viaduct with asphaltic concrete pavement.

The interchange also features pedestrian walkways on both sides of the flyover, a new road through the old tunnel at East Legon, an additional 200 meters of road connecting Cantonments from the Giffard Road Interchange, and road furniture like traffic signals, road markings, and streetlights. The Flower Pot roundabout and its approaches have also been redesigned.

The project was awarded to China Railway No. 5 Engineering Gh. Ltd. on March 7, 2017, with consulting services provided by Deoke Consult Ltd. Afrexim Bank and the Ghanaian government provided funding for the 93-month contract.
