At the Institutional Reforms Retreat in Nairobi, Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama made a passionate case for the critical role of technology and innovation in advancing Africa’s sustainable development goals.
As the world faces unprecedented challenges from climate change, population growth, and resource depletion, President Mahama emphasized that the future of Africa lies in leveraging technology to build a resilient and inclusive economy.
“Technological innovation will not only fuel economic growth but also ensure greater inclusivity,” Mahama argued, stressing that Africa must embrace the digital age in every sector; from agriculture to healthcare and education.
He urged African governments and the AU to invest in digital infrastructure, ensuring access to broadband internet and affordable mobile technology for all Africans, particularly in rural areas.
Further, President Mahama highlighted the potential of digital solutions in solving pressing issues such as climate change and food security.
With Africa experiencing rapid urbanization and environmental shifts, digital tools for sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, and climate monitoring could significantly improve Africa’s capacity to adapt to global changes and mitigate risks.
