The Electoral Commission of Ghana has addressed concerns regarding the printing of ballot papers for the upcoming 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.
In a statement issued on October 10, the EC’s Deputy Chairman in charge of Operations, Samuel Tettey, clarified that printing of Notices of Poll will begin on Friday, October 11, 2024.
However, ballot paper printing will only start after providing ballot statistics to candidates, political parties, and printing houses.
“We would like to assure the General Public that printing of ballot papers has not commenced,” the statement read.
This comes after the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) accused the commission of potential manipulation and electoral malpractice.
The NDC had expressed worries about the EC’s decision to print ballot papers without releasing a certified voter register or accurate ballot statistics.
The Electoral Commission maintained that it will not deviate from established practices, ensuring the integrity of the electoral process.
“As has always been the case, the Commission will provide ballot statistics to Candidates/Political Parties and all Printing Houses before the printing of ballot papers starts,” the EC stated.
The commission also urged the public and all stakeholders to trust it to “deliver transparent, credible, free and fair elections in December 2024.”
