Special voting is now taking place at a few polling places in Ghana, which is a big milestone before the general elections on December 7.
This activity is intended to give people who will be playing important roles on election day the opportunity to cast their votes ahead of time and guarantee their availability for election-related tasks.
Media representatives, security guards, and electoral officials who will be actively participating in the general election process are the main targets of the Special Voting.
About 131,478 people, or 0.007% of the 18,741,159 registered voters, are anticipated to take part in this crucial exercise today, December 2, according to the Electoral Commission (EC).
With the exception of the Eastern and Western Regions, 14 of Ghana’s 16 regions are holding special elections. Due to an EC order to recall and reprint ballots after an alleged security seal violation, voting is not taking place in these two locations.
Special voting in the Eastern and Western Regions has been rescheduled for Thursday, December 5 in order to maintain the integrity of the process.
The public was reassured by EC Chairperson Jean Mensa during an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting about the legitimacy and effectiveness of the voting procedure.

The 14 areas’ designated voting places will host the Special Voting exercise from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. To participate, eligible voters must show poll workers a valid form of identification.
Votes cast during Special Voting will not be counted on the same day as the regular voting process. Rather, they will be safely kept and counted at the Constituency Collation Centers on December 7.
These outcomes will then be included in the final election results after being individually recorded on Presidential and Parliamentary Election Results Collation Forms.
