The Energy Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has refuted assertions that the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has been load shedding power in the last month.
In a response to urgent questions on the floor of Parliament, Dr. Opoku Prempeh attributed the recent power outages to maintenance works, dismissing claims of load shedding, popularly known as “dumsor”.
The Minister’s clarification comes after widespread reports of power outages across the country, with many Ghanaians expressing frustration and concern over the situation.
Dr. Opoku Prempeh assured Parliament on Wednesday, June 19, that the government is working to improve the country’s energy sector, including addressing the challenges facing the ECG.
He also announced plans to invest in new infrastructure and technology to enhance the efficiency and reliability of the power grid.
The Minister’s response was in answer to questions posed by minority MPs, who had pressed for clarification on the recent power outages.
