Veteran Ghanaian actor, Mawuli Semevo, has died after suffering severe burns in a fire accident about a week ago. He was 63.
Mr. Semevo passed away on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at the Ridge Hospital in Accra, where he was receiving treatment.
On February 8, 2025, Judith Addison of Beyond Burns International, a non-profit organisation, reported that Mr. Semevo had been involved in a fire accident and was in a critical condition.
According to Ms. Addison, the actor had suffered burns on about 44% of his body, with respiratory injuries that affected his breathing.
“He has suffered burns up to 44% of his body. He has respiratory injuries and cannot breathe properly. This is very serious. From his head to his legs. Everywhere caught fire and he has lost all his hair,” she said.
The incident occurred when Mr. Semevo’s house caught fire while he was asleep..
Mawuli Semevo was known for his exceptional acting skills, both on stage and in movies. Some of his notable roles were in films such as ‘Harvest at 17’, ‘A Stab in the Dark’, ‘Escape of Love’, ‘Like Cotton Twines’ and ‘The Good Old Days, etc.
