Black Satellites Head Coach Desmond Offei expressed his satisfaction after his team secured a point against Benin in their opening match of the WAFU Zone B U-20 qualifiers in Togo.
Ghana took an early lead in the 14th minute with a goal from Jerry Afriyie, but Benin managed to turn the game around before halftime. Derrick Djokoui equalized with a header in the 26th minute, and Gabriel Moulero put Benin ahead 2-1 just before the break.
Later in the match, Jerry Afriyie converted a penalty to secure a 2-2 draw for the Satellites at the Stade de Kégué on Thursday.
After the game, Desmond Offei acknowledged that his team deserved all three points but was pleased with the hard-earned point.
“With a bit of luck today, we should have gotten the three points, but all in all, I’m really happy with the one point. Because for me, this one point is actually three points if you know what I mean. How we had to think really deep and how that penalty came, so all in all, we’re very happy with the point,” he said.
Ghana will return to action on Sunday, October 20, when they face Niger at the Stade Municipal.
