We should strive to maintain peace before, during, and after election 2024 – Eric Sosu

A member of the National Communication Team for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Eric Sosu, has urged Ghanaians to maintain calm and avoid any misunderstandings during the upcoming 7th December 2024 elections.

Speaking on Adwene Pa on Original TV, he emphasized the importance of peace for a successful election process.

Eric Sosu highlighted that Ghanaians’ calm demeanor leading up to the elections is a good indication of the country’s growing democratic maturity.

According to him, this sense of calm will not only ensure peace but also allow citizens to make informed and rightful voting decisions.

He further explained that a peaceful environment would enable the security forces and election officials to carry out their duties effectively.

“Avoiding chaos such as gunshots or disturbances during the elections will pave the way for a smooth and fair electoral process,” he said.

Mr. Sosu appealed to all political parties and candidates to accept the election results.

He stressed that anyone who loses should peacefully hand over to the winner as a mark of respect for Ghana’s democracy.

“This is crucial for maintaining national unity and ensuring a smooth transition of power,” he added.

During his submission, Mr. Sosu expressed disappointment over a statement made by Mr. Bryan Acheampong, Abetifi MP, at a New Patriotic Party (NPP) campaign rally in Nsawam earlier in the year that the NPP would not hand over power to the NDC, a comment he described as “unfortunate and regrettable.”

He condemned the statement, stating that such remarks could undermine the peace and trust in Ghana’s electoral process.

Additionally, Mr. Eric Sosu encouraged Ghanaians to vote based on their decisions rather than being influenced by political figures, including the current president, Nana Akufo-Addo, or the ruling NPP.

“Make your choice wisely, based on what you believe is best for the country,” he urged.
