You Can’t Impose Harsh Debt Exchange Program On Ghanaians -Nana Yaa Jantuah

The General Secretary of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Nana Yaa Jantuah, asserts that there is no rationale for the government to force Ghanaians with a harsh Domestic Debt Exchange program.

She urged everyone to vigorously oppose the DDEP, including organized labor, trade unions, retirees, private bondholders, banks, and other stakeholders.

“it is within the right of labor, trade unions, pensioners, individual bondholders, banks, and other stakeholders to oppose vehemently any attempt to impose unfavorable conditions of a so-called domestic debt swap program on them,” she added.

Nana Yaa Jantuah claims that the DDEP is attempting to seize the hard-earned money and life savings of government debtors, especially Ghanaians.

“Under the leadership of President Akufo-Addo and Ken Ofori Atta, Ghana is now insolvent, and our economy has finally crumbled. The Akufo-Addo/Ken Ofori Atta government has resorted to a Domestic Debt Exchange program, which tries to expropriate the life savings and hard-earned money of government creditors, including Ghanaians, in an effort to seal an IMF deal, which appears to be their final gasp for breath,” Nana Yaa Jantuah exclusively on Kwaku Owusu Adjei on Adwenekasa on Accra-based Original FM 91.9.

“Ghanaians deserve to know how much was involved and how long the debt exchange would take. It is not just about people’s investment, but more about people’s lives and livelihood”.

The Domestic Debt Exchange program is a government initiative seeking to classify domestic bonds into four categories to create fiscal space as part of preparations to qualify Ghana for an International Monetary Fund facility.
