Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister, has strongly warned the region’s illegal miners to stop and leave their contentious areas of operation.
The illegal miners had two weeks to fully comply, according to Dr. Amoakohene.
According to him, the directive applied to illegal mining (galamsey) operators and operations in water bodies, forest reserves, and other forbidden areas.
He warned that the government would be sending “out a team to make sure we restore normalcy and order within the mining sector” in terms of enforcement.
In order to ensure the “holistic” impact and success of the initiative aimed at protecting Ghana’s natural environment from further degradation, he said the “commitment” was a cooperative effort with other regional ministers who share tributaries with the Ashanti Region.
