Let’s contribute to ensuring a peaceful and successful election to safeguard our democracy -Asantehene

As Ghana gets ready for the December 7 presidential and parliamentary elections, Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has issued a call to action for vigilante defense of the country’s democratic system.

As he approaches his 25th anniversary of becoming the 16th occupant of the Golden Stool, he is making this call to action.

He emphasized how crucial it is to keep things calm and stable before, during, and after the elections.

Speaking to the public on Sunday, May 12, the Asantehene emphasized how important a calm environment is for enabling people to make decisions that will benefit the country. In the context of ongoing political campaigns, he emphasized the need to protect democracy in the face of increased political intensity.

The Asantehene warned against complacency and emphasized the need for increased vigilance to stop any actions that could jeopardize the integrity of the election process in his speech.

“This year is another election year. Our political leaders are already on a campaign trail and intend many months of combating campaigning ahead.

“After all our past experiences, we should make sure that our democracy is saved,” he stated.

“Nonetheless, we need to know that we cannot take things for granted. We must be alert to avoid anything that will derail the electoral process.

“People need the right environment where they can make informed choices in the interest of the nation,” he stated.
