The famous blues have lost their recognition in the English Premier League.
In the times of legendary players like John Terry, Frank Lampard, Michael Essien, Petr Cech and Didier Drogba, Chelsea was among teams not only in England but worldwide that performed well in matches and competitions.
The side was an envious one, as most players eagerly wanted to debut in favor of the side. Speaking of trophies, the Blues have more to talk about; 6 league titles, 8 FA Cups, 5 League Cups, 4 Community Shields.
Internationally, they have won the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup the UEFA Super Cup twice each, and the FIFA Club World Cup once.
The Blues have major bragging rights over some big clubs in the world.
The slacking disease affected the blue side after the dismissal of their former manager Thomas Tuchel.
Thomas Tuchel joined Chelsea on January 26, 2021, as he signed an 18-month contract (with the option for an additional year).
The German ended his time at Chelsea, reaching 99 games, with 66 wins, 19 draws, and 18 losses. He also won UEFA and FIFA Manager of the Year.
The former Chelsea manager was also named FIFA Men’s Coach of the Year.
Tuchel left Chelsea on September 7, 2022, after 17 months at Stamford Bridge. In 17 months as Tuchel’s head coach, winning 3 major trophies; Champions League, Super Cup, and Club World Cup, the manager was still sacked.
Though there were speculations on reasons why Tuchel was sacked, the management of the team was also blamed for not treating Tuchel well.
After Tuchel’s dismissal, Chelsea’s performance has been poor, even failing to beat lesser teams.
Graham Potter joined Chelsea as head coach after Tuchel’s dismissal. Potter ended his first season in Chelsea, booking a spot for the Blues in the bottom half of the premier league.
Graham Potter managed 31 games at Chelsea, won 12, drew 8, and lost 11.
Managing Chelsea, Potter had a 38.7% win while Tuchel had a 62.6% win. Potter was sacked at the end of the 2022/2023 season for poor performance. Chelsea owner Todd Boehly appointed Mauricio Pochettino as new head coach after the dismissal of Graham Potter.
The Argentine began his post as head coach in the year of the 2023/2024 season.
After managing Chelsea for more than half of the season, Pochettino currently has a win percentage of 46.7%, and a lost percentage of 36.7%, compared to Potter’s lost percentage of 35.5% and Tuchel’s lost percentage of 18%.
Is the dismissal of Thomas Tuchel the problem?
With world-class players like Reece James, Thiago Silva, Moises Caicedo, Christopher Nkunku, Cole Palmer, Raheem Sterling, Mykhailo Mudryk, and Enzo Fernandez, the blue is currently placed 12, out of 20 English Premier League teams.
Among the last 4 Chelsea managers, Tuchel has the most successful wins.
According to Thomas Fiifi Mills, after the club was sold to the new owner Todd Boehly, the club could have continued with its success, until former head coach Tuchel was sacked.
In less than 3 years since Todd Boely became owner, 4 coaches (Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter, Frank Lampard, and Mauricio Pochettino) have managed the team, yet the team has still lost its recognition as one of the best in the world.
Most fans are pushing an agenda for current head coach Mauricio Pochettino to be sacked due to poor performance.
The big question is what is the actual problem? Looking at the facts that players have been transferred in and out, coaches have been changed within a short period, yet the poor performance continues.
