UNMISS GHANBATT 11 DONATES TO SOUTH SUDAN IDP CAMP VOLLEY BALL TEAM

As part of efforts to promote Peace in South Sudan through sports, the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) Ghana Battalion (GHANBATT) 11 donated a set of Jerseys to the Rhino volleyball teams (Male and Female) within the Internally Displaced Persons camp (IDP), Bentiu-South Sudan on Thursday 28 December 2023 after a volleyball match.

In an address after the match, the Commanding Officer of UNMISS GHANBATT 11, Lt Col Dominic Ampomah expressed that, the volleyball match was aimed at promoting peace in South Sudan through sports.

He further highlighted that GHANBATT’s operational activities in fulfilment of the priority mandate of the UNMISS is to ensure protection of civilians within its Area of Responsibility in which the IDP camp is located.


He assured them of the GHANBATT’s commitment to promote peace in Unity State.

He further encouraged them not be intimidated by its presence but rather see them as stakeholders in the peace building efforts and thus accept them as their brothers and sisters.

The Volleyball Chairperson of the IDP Camp, John Twelve Ruot also expressed appreciation on behalf of the team towards GHANBATT’s benevolence through sportsmanship and added that, sports is an ideal way of bringing people together to foster peace.

The match was witnessed by about 2000 IDPs.
